The Oldest Daughter: Putting Down What You Picked Up Young

Were you the one who helped raise your siblings, kept the peace, and grew up fast? This free five-lesson course from Lisa Savage, LCSW, looks at where that role comes from, how it shows up now, and small ways to start setting some of it down. Read at your own pace.

What's inside

Five short lessons and a workbook

  1. You Grew Up Fast. What the role is, how it starts, and how culture and family expectations shape it.
  2. How It Follows You. At work, in relationships, with your family, and in your body.
  3. The Guilt. Why resting or saying no feels wrong, and why guilt doesn't mean you did something wrong.
  4. Setting Some of It Down. Small changes to practice, plus words you can use.
  5. Who You Are Beyond the Role. What comes next, and when therapy can help.

Each lesson is a 5 to 7 minute read, with one reflection question and one small thing to try. The printable workbook gives you space to write.

This course is for education. It isn't therapy and doesn't replace care from a licensed professional. If you're in crisis, call or text 988.
